Few Difference Between Wireline Services of Cased-Hole and Open-Hole Logging
In different operations during oil drilling, it is very important to take various measurements at certain specific depths, so that it becomes easier to identify the subsurface formations.
Depending upon the logging while on the ship, in order to perform drilling operations effectively, one has to take proper measurements of the depth against the formation type that is taking place after the drilling operation.
You may have to use many different kinds of drill bits too, based on the type of mud that one will come across, which may be required in order to create a particular formation of the well drilled so far.
Renegade Wireline Services has developed few different types of logging tools in order to bore the well by using a wireline that will be responsible for measuring various parameters such as –
- Resistivity
- Porosity
- Permeability
- Water saturation
- Temperature
For drilling engineers of oil well, a new technique has been developed so that logging can also be done during drilling operations. By using these techniques, they will not only carry out drilling operation but also collect various real-time data as well.
There are two kinds of logging methods developed which are useful after the drilling has been completed which are as follows:
- Open-hole logging method
- Cased-hole logging method
In case, of open-hole logging, the logging operations are performed on the well prior to casing and cementing the wellbore. Logging is in fact done through the formation’s bare rock sides.
Such kind of logging method is quite common as the measurements will not be hindered and it will be done either after or during the well is getting drilled.
While in case of cased-hole logging, retrieving of all the logging measurements will be through well casing or metal piping which is inserted into well during the operation is completed.
With the help of cased-hole logging, operators can obtain few additional information from reservoir or well, which has been done already. For instance, the well is already in operation and cased-hole log may help to determine what has really hampered flow.
Sometimes, it is possible to decide to plug or abandon the well and cased-hole log can help you to identify what will be lying beyond casing of well.
You can use cased-hole logging method to evaluate the completion and formation of the well, and also determine the cement’s condition, corrosion and perforation.
It is possible to run through casing of well, and obtain better ideas about thermal decay and various other parameters of productivity measurements.
